Academic and Career Advising

Rachel Kohl

Agricultural Technology Program’s advising model pairs advisees with faculty mentors in their areas of interest. This shared partnership empowers students to establish academic, career, and life goals. Students are guided to reach their full academic potential by assuming responsibility for decision making, critical thinking, and utilizing available resources.

We require students maintain the following academic and GPA standards:

  • 2.0 cumulative GPA is required to be in good academic standing
  • Internship Program- After completing 28 credit hours, students that are in good academic standing can complete their internship. Students are required to work a minimum of 10 weeks and a minimum of 400 hours in an internship related to their career objective.

Our advisors meet with students early in their first semester and throughout their two years in the program. The advisors get to know each student and monitor student progress according to satisfactory progress rules, advise on plans of study, and assist students with internship and career planning.

Current AT students may schedule an advising appointment by emailing their advisor or stopping by their office hours.

  • Academic advisors are posted in HokieSpa; select "View Your General Student Information."
  • Students can view the course planners and course descriptions by visiting the AAM and LTM option pages.

The student shares the responsibility for developing an advising partnership with his or her advisor. Students are expected to

  • Communicate goals, needs, wants, and concerns to the advisor in a respectful and sincere manner;
  • Keep abreast of their own academic progress and requirements related to their academic program;
  • Make, keep, and be prepared for appointments with the advisor;
  • Bring concerns regarding the quality of advising to the attention of the advisor or the director.
