Associate Professor Anton Baudoin Retires from Teaching in the Agricultural Technology Program
Dr. Anton Baudoin retired from teaching in the Agricultural Technology Program at the end of the fall 2020 semester. He has been a long-time instructor, teaching the plant diseases portion of the Pest Management course since the program’s inception in 1987. He also has taught weeds portion of that course since 2002.
A professor in the Department of Plant Pathology, Physiology and Weed Science at Virginia Tech since 1981, Dr. Baudoin’s involvement has benefited hundreds of AT students. His excellence in teaching has been recognized several times, most recently with the William E Wine Award for Excellence in Teaching at Virginia Tech and the NACTA (North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture) Teaching Award of Merit.
Wesley Gwaltney, current advanced instructor for the AT program, reflected on his time as a student, “Dr. Baudoin taught multiple plant pathology classes that I took, and I enjoyed each of them. He has a talent of finding applicable examples for each of his students, whether that student is interested in row crops, turfgrass, or ornamentals. His disease notebook helped acquaint me with the major diseases of Virginia’s cropping systems. This assignment has introduced hundreds of students to the pathogens most important in their disciplines. I still draw in the knowledge from those classes as I teach today.”
In the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Dr. Baudoin is continuing his teaching and research in applied plant pathology, grape diseases, fungicide resistance, and applied plat disease epidemiology and management. The Agricultural Technology Program is appreciative for the many years that Dr. Baudoin shared with our students.
