Preparing students for their career with hands-on learning opportunities is at the core of what we do. A vital part of that is the required summer internship. Students receive valuable experience and feedback from their supervisor and advisor. We partner with industry to deliver internship programs that benefit both the employer and student.

Megan completed her required summer internship in upstate New York at Thunder View Farms, a premier source of locally raised beef, and Angus genetics including a growing embryo transfer program. Megan learned more about breeding and feeding cattle, and gained hands-on hay production experience. Megan is racking hay in this photo.

Ulysses completed his internship with Wilbur-Ellis Agribusiness in Healdsburg, CA. It is a services leader in precision agriculture technology and products and crop research services. Ulysses worked a large territory of 5,000 square miles scouting vineyards. Pictured here he is using a hand lends magnifier to look for pests and diseases on leaves and clusters, examining a leaf at a vineyard, doing crop research pulling shoot tips, and making analysis on control and treated blocks.

Matthew spent his internship working at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA. The historic resort was going through a big renovation. Matthew was able to help design and install some irrigation and landscape features in focal points on the property. In addition to working with the grounds crew, he also worked with the golf maintenance team on one of the best courses in the state!

Chloe is pictured scouting beans for slug damage at her internship with her family's local feed, seed, and fertilizer business, Mathias Brothers Inc. in New Market, VA. As part of the required internship, our students who work with family must show that they taking on new responsibilities. Chloe was able to work more independently and gain experience leading a team.

This was Cole's view as he was assisting with pasture rotation as part of his internship at IX Ranch, a family owned multi-generational cow/calf and yearling ranch in Big Sandy, Montana.

Jenna completed her internship at the Virginia Tech Tidewater AREC. Jenna did not have a previous crop background but found that she really enjoyed working with crops and research. Pictured she is making reagents for a Lachat machine.

Lianna completed her internship at CFC Farm & Home Center in Culpeper, VA. Lianna has an interest in animal nutrition and was able to work mainly in the feed mill and gain lots of hands-on experience. Here she is tracking the growth of foals.

Six received a job offer at the end of his internship with Ruppert Landscape in Chantilly, VA. He is using a mini excavator in the photograph.

Alex completed his internship with SonRise Ranch in Thermopolis, WY. SonRise Ranch is a regenerative grass-fed beef, free-range pork, lamb, and poultry ranch providing meats and eggs wholesale and directly to customers and through its restaurant. The ranch also offers farm stays.
